Keith Ray pointed me to Mark Forester’s blog a few weeks ago. Among other things, Mark exposes his writing process, which he calls “growing an article.”
His first draft is one sentence . The second draft is three paragraphs. It keeps growing at bit at a time. I love this!
I can’t tell you the number of brilliant people who struggle with writing because they believe they have to have the article (book, presentation, what ever) all thought out, complete and polished before they put pen to paper.
In writing, you learn as you go and refactor relentlessly.
Maybe seeing Mark Forester’s drafts will help people start putting their thoughts on paper.
